WHAT IS KRAV MAGA?
Krav Maga is Hebrew for "Close Combat". Krav Maga is the official defense system of the Israeli Army, and it has shown its efficacy as a civil self defence system around the world as well.
It was created by a number of Israeli fighters, experts in different martial arts such as Jujutsu, Judo, Boxing, Wrestling, etc, in order to train the "Haganah", or the paramilitary forces that were fighting against the British forces in "Palestine", and against the Arab attacks to the people getting to live in the urban areas or in the new Kibbutzim.
The most famous developer was Imi Lichtenfeld, in the begining of the 20th Century from the former Czechoslovakia, who taught it as a defense for the Europe Jewish comunity, in the ages of the Nazi threaten and 2nd World War. Due to its effectiveness, it was quickly adopted by the Israeli Defense Forces (TZAHAL), from where it began to be taught to civil population, spreading to the USA and to the rest of the world.
Its great popularity is related to the fact that Krav Maga is a natural and easy to learn system. There are no "Katas", so one can rapidly see how effective it is, and great progress can be achieved in a relatively short term.
